AEKOS didn't start because I wanted to make clothes.
It started because I needed to build something that actually meant something to me.
I've tried things before. I've had ideas before. I've put time, money and energy into things that didn't become what I thought they would. I've made mistakes. I've taken losses. I've had moments where I genuinely questioned what the fuck I was doing and whether I should just leave it alone.
But I could never completely leave it alone.
There was always something in me that wanted to create. Not just another logo on a shirt. Not something made because it looked cool for five minutes. I wanted to build something that could carry a story with it.
That became AEKOS.
NOT WHO I WAS. WHO I'M BECOMING.
That line means more to me than anything else attached to this brand.
Because I know exactly who I used to be.
I know the decisions I've made. I know the opportunities I've wasted. I know the times I should have worked harder. I know the things I wish I could go back and do differently.
But eventually I realized there's no fucking point spending the rest of my life trying to rewrite something that already happened.
I can't change who I was.
I can decide who I become.
That's the entire foundation of AEKOS.
It isn't about pretending your past didn't happen. It isn't some bullshit motivational message about waking up tomorrow and suddenly becoming a completely different person.
It's about accepting where you came from without allowing it to decide where you're going.
And I think a lot of people understand that feeling.
Maybe you fucked something up.
Maybe you wasted years.
Maybe somebody counted you out. Maybe you counted yourself out.
Maybe you're just at a point in your life where you know you're capable of being more than what you've shown so far.
I know that feeling.
AEKOS is for that person.
BUILT ON PURPOSE.
Nothing about this is supposed to happen overnight.
I don't want AEKOS to be one of those brands that shows up, throws a logo on blanks, runs some ads and disappears six months later.
I want to build something people actually remember.
And I want to earn that.
Every piece. Every photograph. Every video. Every event. Every collection. Every person who decides to spend their money on something we made.
It all matters.
"Built On Purpose" isn't just something I thought sounded good underneath a logo. It's the standard I want this brand held to.
If we make something, there should be a reason behind it.
If we tell a story, it should be real.
If somebody buys an AEKOS piece, I want them to feel like they bought into something bigger than whatever was printed or embroidered on the fabric.
Because clothing eventually gets old.
The reason you wore it doesn't have to.
HAMILTON.
This brand also wouldn't be what it is without where I come from.
Hamilton isn't perfect.
That's exactly why I love it.
There are beautiful parts of this city and there are ugly parts. There are waterfalls and old neighbourhoods, factories and smokestacks, football games, construction sites, downtown streets, boarded-up buildings and people working their asses off every day.
It's polished in some places and rough as hell in others.
It has character.
Growing up around here shaped the way I see things. There's something about a city built on steel, labour and people who keep moving that fits everything I want AEKOS to represent.
Nothing handed to you.
Nothing pretending to be perfect.
Just keep building.
That's why Hamilton isn't something I want to use as a marketing gimmick.
It's part of the DNA of the brand.
THIS TIME, DIFFERENT.
I've been around clothing before.
AEKOS isn't my first attempt at creating something.
And I'm not going to rewrite history and pretend everything before this was some calculated path that led exactly here. It wasn't.
Some shit worked.
Some didn't.
I learned what happens when you rush.
I learned what happens when you care more about getting something out than understanding why you're putting it out.
I learned that having a product doesn't mean you have a brand.
Most importantly, I learned that if I was ever going to do this again, I wanted to do it properly.
AEKOS became that second chance.
Not a second chance to sell shirts.
A second chance to prove to myself that I could take everything I learned, everything I got wrong and everything I still believed I was capable of doing, and turn it into something real.
I also didn't build this completely alone.
Someone I've known since Grade 6 ended up becoming part of this with me. We'd sold things together when we were younger. Life moved on, we went our separate ways, and eventually our paths crossed again at a point where our goals actually made sense together.
There's something fitting about that.
Because this entire brand is about becoming.
Not having everything figured out from the beginning.
WHAT AEKOS ACTUALLY MEANS TO ME.
I don't expect everybody who sees AEKOS to understand all of this.
Somebody might just see a shirt they like.
That's okay.
But for the people who do connect with it, I want AEKOS to represent something simple:
You are allowed to become someone different.
Your worst year doesn't have to define your next ten.
The version of you that failed isn't automatically the version of you that gets the final say.
You can fuck up and keep going.
You can lose and rebuild.
You can start late.
You can start over.
You can look at where you are right now, admit that it isn't where you want to be, and actually do something about it.
I'm still doing that myself.
That's important.
I'm not standing on the other side pretending I've figured life out and selling everybody some success story.
I'm building this while I'm living it.
AEKOS is part of that process.
Every drop is another piece of it.
Every person wearing it becomes another piece of it.
And wherever this goes, I never want to lose the reason I started.
I'm not trying to be who I was.
I know who that person was.
I'm interested in who I'm becoming.
